Barre, VT

This project, with a total of 23,650 square feet, included a complete renovation of 11,300 sf of an existing building, and the addition of a two story 8,350 sf office structure and 4,000 sf truck bay.  The new facility will serve the varied needs of a non-profit community service institution serving economically challenged community members in a variety of ways.

Delivery Method:  Lump sum bid

Completed:  July 2013

Owner:  Capstone Community Action

Architect:  Gossens Bachman Architects

Unique Attributes:  This project, located on an old industrial site, required geotechnical remediation to counter subsurface deficiencies.  The building envelope was super insulated to achieve a pascal rating that is 3.8 times over Vermont Energy Code Requirements.  A high efficiency air to air heat pump system provides heating and cooling.  A root top energy recovery unit with heating and dehumidification provides dedicated ventilation air to the space during occupied times.  High efficiency LED and fluorescent light sources were chosen.  A majority of spaces are also day-lit.
