Unique Attributes: Project Schedule dictated that site, foundations, and structural design, including concrete piling system, be designed for bidding and construction as a separate phase while building design continued to meet an aggressive project schedule. This project involved demolishing existing structures on a city block before construction commencement, and early phase excavation and installation of erosion and sediment control measures. To save two to three months, Geopier technology was used to strengthen the clay soil areas versus the installation of conventional driven steel piers. Vermont’s first ever application of this technology, it involves injecting crushed stone into the ground to consolidate and strengthen poor soils, thereby increasing load bearing capacity to appropriate levels.
