Project Description

South Main Street

Apartments / Ladd Hall

Waterbury, Vermont

After the ravages of Hurricane Irene in 2011, it was decided that the best restored use of historic Ladd Hall was to meet a persistent community need for new housing.  In 2014, after extensive planning, the historic restoration of Ladd Hall was to begin as part of a 27 housing unit development which would include a new connected three story, 26,000sf addition to Ladd Hall.

Delivery Method:  Lump Sum Bid

Completed:  June 2015

Owner:  South Main Street Apartments

Architect:  Gossens Bachman Architects

Unique Attributes:  Originally built in 1890, Ladd Hall underwent a gut renovation and was restored to preserve its unique historic elements.  The new portion features panelized wood construction, and both the restored Ladd Hall and new construction are highly energy efficient.  ADA requirements are met via an elevator serving both new and renovated areas, and two of the housing units are designed specifically for physically challenged tenants.
