Entry Addition

Montpelier, Vermont

This major state office building, located directly across from Vermont’s State Capital building on State Street, was constructed in 1949 and is on the National Register for Historic Places.  This project addressed egress deficiencies including complete replacement of the two stair towers and new, ADA compliant rear entrance.  Additionally, the building perimeter was excavated for flood control installations.

Delivery Method: Negotiated Construction Management

Completed: September 2020

Owner: The State of Vermont

Architect: Black River Design

This five story marble clad building houses the Department of Motor Vehicles and other state agencies.  With complete demolition and rebuild of both stair towers and constructing the new rear entrance while maintaining safe occupancy, the logistics of maintaining emergency egress and a productive project progression dictated a phased approach and high levels of communication and coordination with the State’s management team.
