Project Description
Maplewood Convenience
Store and
Vermont Welcome Center
Berlin, Vermont
This project consists of a new 9,270 sf steel framed convenience store that will also serve as a Vermont Welcome Center. The convenience store features a commercial kitchen for freshly made foods that will be offered in the store, a deli servery and dining area for food to order, frozen and refrigerated goods, and self serve coffee, drink and ice cream. Vermont travel and information displays are prominently displayed, the bathrooms are sized for the traveling public, and there is a section for private Vermont businesses to advertise their offerings. The fuel islands include 12 gasoline and 8 diesel pumps.
Delivery Method: Negotiated Construction Management
Completed: August 2016
Owner: Maplewood Limited of Montpelier
Architect: Gossens Bachman Architects
Unique Attributes: This project incorporated a unique stormwater management system due to the constraints of the site. Fence and tree topped berms were installed to visually and acoustically separate the development from adjacent properties. All of the electric power for this facility is provided via a nearby PV solar array owned by a related entity. The energy efficient building components and functional layout of the building interior and site provide for a highly efficient commercial operation. (Evening photo by Gary Hall)
